Gen Dance, the independent dance company established by GEN, was born with the intention of developing a specific language for each project, besides voguish fashions and criteria, developed in each case after a thorough investigation, which exposes the conceptual problems interpreters far exceeds the scope of dance and contemporary art, including scientific, sociological and historical themes.

The casts of his works are renewed for each production, and announce the participation of artists who come not only from contemporary dance, but also from theater, acrobatics and urban dance. The audition process for the Natural History of Beauty, involved more than a hundred dancers and artists, both Uruguayan and foreign, and the final selection was integrated by sixteen performers that participated actively in the creation process.

EL AZAR Y LA NECESIDAD

A contemporary dance play that explores, among other themes, the Meme theory by Richard Dawkins. Its title is an homage to the work of french biologist Jacques Monod, a key figure in the popularization of evolutionary theory.

A contemporary dance solo that deals with the everyday obstacles to the establishment of a contemplative state of mind, in which each person can connect with intimate memories and desires.

This video dance piece is structured around a sequence of scenes featuring different characters played by the same performer, following a tradition of exploration of the multitudinary nature of the self that had Cindy Sherman’s work as its best example.

A contemporary dance piece. Human beings are the mammal species that has less independence at birth in terms of movement and survival opportunities. For a baby, it takes almost as long to start walking as it takes to start talking. This play intends to show such learning processes in an expressive way that will render them less obvious, less taken for granted.
